Working or living with young children can often mean that whiteboard markers end up in places where they are not entirely supposed to be. If you have been cleaning up and noticed that one your kids has taken to your computer with one of these markers it is important to you work to remove the stain as soon as possible. Keep in mind that the use of harsh chemicals can actually damage your computer, especially the monitor, so it is best to avoid them.
Method 1: Squirt a small amount of an antibacterial hand gel into a damp washcloth and use it to rub at the stained portions of the computer in a circular motion. The alcohol in the hand gel should loosen up the ink without damaging the machine or the screen.
If you do not have any antibacterial hand gel on hand, you may substitute it for plain rubbing alcohol. Keep in mind, however, that you will need to rub at the whiteboard marker for much longer in order to remove it. This method is often suggested when cleaning LCD screens.
Method 2: Spray a small amount of a standard whiteboard cleaner onto a damp cloth. After waiting between five and ten seconds, use it to quickly wipe the marker off the computer. This should completely remove the ink without posing the risk of damage to the screen.
Method 3: Create a solution that is comprised of 50% warm water and 50% white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and use it to rub at the stain in light, circular motions. After a few minutes, the marker should have completely faded from the computer.
Each of the methods that we have outlined above will be effective in removing whiteboard marker stains from your computer, even the screen if your children have been extra naughty. The method that you use should depend on what sorts of products you have lying around and what you are comfortable doing; some people are wary of using any chemicals on their screens, which often makes the third method the most preferable.
