Sometimes, whiteboard erasers simply do not cut it – they may be unable to remove stubborn stains or the marker dust that they tend to leave behind may aggravate breathing issues. If you are experiencing either of these problems, you may be looking for alternative methods that you can use in conjunction with your erasers.
Microfiber Cloth
Some people choose to simply get rid of their whiteboard erasers all together and swap over to microfiber cloths. This is a highly desirable decision, as it removes the ink from the board and the marker dust that is usually left behind.
Cleaning Fluid
Most office supply stores will stock a whiteboard cleaning fluid that you can spray onto your board before running your eraser over it. The fluid will help to remove stubborn marks. If you cannot find a cleaning fluid, however, it is possible to make your own:
Scrape the zest of an orange into a large glass bowl. Mince it up until it is as fine as you can possibly get it (the finer the zest the more oil it will release). Then, add about 2 cups of a 70% isopropyl alcohol to the zest. Leave the mixture to sit for two or three days, then strain into a spray bottle.
Whilst there is nothing wrong with using a whiteboard eraser, it will occasionally need a little help to get rid of some of the more stubborn stains. Remember to never use solvent-based cleaning fluids on your whiteboard, as this will remove the stain but will damage the surface and possibly even your eraser.
