Have you been regularly cleaning your chalkboard but still found that it becomes overly dusty? This is probably because you are failing to clean your erasers, which will retain all of the dust that they wipe away and spread it back out onto the chalkboard when it cannot possibly soak up anymore. As these erasers are produced using felt, they are relatively easy to clean.
- Take the chalkboard erasers and pound them repeatedly against a hard surface (such as the concrete sidewalk or even each other). This should be done outside to prevent the dust from getting everywhere.
- Rub the erasers against a white towel; this will show you when less and less dust is being removed from the felt. Make sure that the towel is laundered immediately.
- Run a hand vacuum (on its lowest setting) across the chalkboard erasers to literally suck up as much of the dust as you can. Turning the vacuum up could actually damage the eraser.
- Fill a bucket with warm water and drop the eraser in. Use your fingers to gently rub the felt and remove any traces of dust. Set the eraser out on a towel and leave to air dry (which will take a few days).
Once you have cleaned your chalkboard erasers, it is likely that you will want to keep them as clean as possible for as long as possible. Did you know that by regularly cleaning your chalkboard you can help to achieve this? The less dust that is left for the eraser to pick up, the less likely that it will grow to out of control proportions.
