The most common (and most annoying) problem associated with whiteboard markers is that the writing tip dries out. Whether you’ve left the lid off for a few days or it’s simply an old pen – there is nothing more frustrating then trying to write only for nothing to happen. There are 2 ways that you can revive your whiteboard markers, providing that there is still ink in the barrel:
Gravity Method
In this method, you will need to place the cap tightly over the tip of your dried out whiteboard marker, ensuring that it snaps into place. Then, put the marker into a pencil container or a cup, being sure to place it with the tip facing downwards. According to the laws of gravity, the ink will naturally flow towards the tip. 24 hours is generally enough time to revive a marker – just be sure to check it and leave for longer if needed.
Plier Method
In this method, you will need to remove the whiteboard marker’s cap. Take a pair of pliers and use them to grasp the spongy tip and pull it out. Flip this tip around, using the pliers to hold onto the moist end, and push it back into the marker. You should be able to use the pen immediately, and the dry side of the tip will slowly absorb ink over the next few days.
The next time your whiteboard markers decides to stop working right when you need it, try out one of the above methods to revive it. If you won’t need your pen until the next day, use the gravity method, but if you need your marker to work again in a short amount of time, use the plier method.
